The networking landscape is changing with more businesses choosing fresh open-air spaces as the setting for their networking events, and that’s not surprising considering the benefits. Outdoor spaces at Millennium Point
Ingress is a semi-private outdoor space. It’s adjacent to our level 1 space, Platform, which has power sockets, a fully licenced bar and restroom facilities. It’s also adjacent to the Millennium Point privately owned car park which can be used for its intended purpose or breakout space. Ingress is available from £260+VAT.

Promenade is our open public space which backs onto Eastside city park providing ample room ideal for more casual networking and parties. Our promenade benefits from naturally high footfall which means more opportunity to generate a captive audience. This space has access to power and is close to our ground floor Atrium and level 1 space, Platform. The promenade is available from £450+VAT

What packages are available?
We have a range of packages which can be customised to suit the look and feel of your outdoor networking event. We have introduced contact-free catering with food individually packaged and drinks in bottles or single-use plastic. All our packaging is biodegradable, which means safeguarding the environment as well as your delegates.

While we can’t guarantee the weather, we can guarantee a high-level service, professional and flexible event management and high-tech audio-visual support. We will work with you to provide protection from bad weather. We have seating, coverings and lighting to suit the style and theme of your networking and barriers to monitor footfall and crowd-flow. We have an on-site bar but can also deliver pop-up bars and refreshment stations.

The Shawshank Redemption will be screened in Millennium Point’s giant screen auditorium (formerly an IMAX)

Tickets are on sale for a socially distanced screening of an all-time cinematic classic film in Millennium Point’s giant screen auditorium in the eastside of Birmingham city centre. Our multi-award-winning conference and events venue announced early this month a socially distanced screening of The Shawshank Redemption (1994) which will take place this Thursday 27th August at 7:30 pm.

The Shawshank Redemption is an American Prison drama based on the 1982 Stephen King novella ‘Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption’. The film follows Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman as two prison inmates who bond over several years, finding solace and eventual redemption through acts of common decency. Despite being a flop at the box office in its initial run, the film has since received multiple award nominations and accolades including seven Academy Award nominations and a theatrical re-release. Original author, Stephen King, regards it as his favourite adaptation of his work.

Tickets and what’s included
The film will be screened in the former IMAX at Millennium Point, now a spacious Auditorium with a giant 24m x 12m screen. Tickets cost an equivalent of £15 per person and include two drinks of bottle beer, a glass of house wine or soft drinks, with additional snacks and beverages available to purchase at our fully licenced bar throughout the screening. Tickets are available in bundles of 2-4 with assigned seating as part of Millennium Point’s highly praised measures for social distancing.

Keeping you safe in uncertain times
The award-winning events team at Millennium Point has been working hard to implement new hygiene and safety measures, to ensure all government guidelines are met. The Auditorium, which at full capacity can host 354 people, has been reduced to 181 seats to allow for physical distancing between cinemagoers, and all seats will be allocated in advance to pre-paid ticket holders. A deep clean will be carried out between performances and all screenings will be contactless and cash-free and staff and cinemagoers alike will be wearing facemasks. This will be the 4th social distanced screening our award-winning Birmingham-based team have organised since lockdown restrictions began to ease in July. Following our socially distanced family screening of Trolls: World Tour in July, one satisfied cinemagoer commented:

Here’s everything you need to know about hiring one of Birmingham’s biggest screens at Millennium Point.

What is it?
The Auditorium at Millennium Point is a spacious theatre-style event space. It holds 354-tiered-seating and a 6.2m x 2.3m stage underneath a giant 24m x 12m sized screen. Formerly one of the first IMAXs in the region, this remarkable space in our landmark public building can be accessed from Level 4 and Level 1, via a striking twin curved staircase in our open-plan Platform space. Platform features a fully licenced bar and toilet facilities with optional features such as a cloakroom, stage, projector screen and additional AV depending on your event. This space can be combined with the Auditorium at a reasonable cost to elevate your event.

What can it be used for?
Millennium Point’s Giant Screen Auditorium has been used for a multitude of exciting events and, like our other spaces, can accommodate almost anything you can think of. The Auditorium is the home of the popular annual Birmingham Film Festival and VSFighting, one of Europe’s largest fighting game esports tournaments. It’s regularly used for film screenings, award ceremonies, conferences, exhibitions, panels and Q&As and, more recently, a live performance space.

What comes with it?
Unlike more conventional venues with screens, such as cinemas or theatres, you will get exclusive use of the auditorium without having to worry about fitting into a schedule or facing higher costs to cover loss of earnings. This screen is yours when you want it, for less money. Each event comes with your own dedicated event manager who will be on hand to assist you from initial enquiry through to the big day. Your event will be supported by our dedicated AV team to ensure the smooth running of your event at no extra cost.

Where is it?
The Giant Screen Auditorium is located inside the landmark public building Millennium Point, Curzon Street in the Eastside of Birmingham City centre. The multi-award-winning venue is a 15-minute walk from Birmingham New Street Station and major inter-city transport links. Millennium Point has an onsite 900 space multi-story car park owned by Birmingham City cancel which is easily accessible from the M6, M5 and M42.

Social Distancing & Safety Measures.
Our highly accredited team have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that our building and Auditorium is safe, clean and compliant with the latest government guidelines on coronavirus without compromising the scope and quality of your event.

We have reduced capacity in our Auditorium from 354 seats to 115 seats for corporate events and 181 seats for leisure events. Seats that are off limits are clearly marked.
One-way systems around the space to ensure reduced contact.
The Auditorium is deep cleaned, including seats, before and after every event in addition to our regular, rigorous cleaning regime.
Our staff will be wearing appropriate PPE and our fully trained in COVID-19 protection.
Our fully licenced bar is cashless with protective screens.
All refreshments and catering are self-contained with minimal contact from our staff.

Back by popular demand, MP Presents is offering film fans the chance to get up close to the big screen whilst remaining safely distanced from each other, with three screenings of classic films.

Perfect for families, cult film fans and those looking for a fun evening out with friends, we’ve chosen three more films which will be screened in our award-winning venue’s giant Auditorium (formerly the IMAX cinema) over the August Bank Holiday Weekend. We’re kicking off this triple bank holiday treat with one of cinema’s finest films, The Shawshank Redemption, on Thursday 27th August followed by Disney Pixar’s animated classic Toy Story and the jukebox musical favourite Mamma Mia! on Friday 28th August in the morning and evening respectively. Each ticket also includes extras such as drinks, sweets and popcorn.

This announcement comes after the overwhelmingly positive response we received from our first series of socially distanced screenings last month, where cinema-goers complimented the measures we had implemented to keep people safe while providing a fun and sociable cinema experience.

Tickets for Toy Story are priced at £7.50 (plus booking fee) and include a drink and sweets for each child. Thursday night’s screening of The Shawshank Redemption includes two drinks in the £15 (plus booking fee) ticket price. Finally, Mamma Mia! includes a mini-bottle of bubbles and popcorn also for £15 (plus booking fee). Drinks and snacks, including some cheap deals, will also be available to purchase at our cashless bar at each screening.

Why are we doing this?
As the country starts to emerge from lockdown, we wanted to put on a series of fun and affordable events that appeal to a wide range of people, from families and couples to groups of friends. Cinema is a great form of escapism and watching films on our giant screen is a truly memorable experience, which we hope will offer a safe and enjoyable way for people to spend time together.

The whole team at Millennium Point has gone above and beyond to make sure we can safely adapt our spaces. We have a huge amount of experience in running events of all sizes, and our first priority was to make the venue as safe as possible. With the range of measures that we’ve put in place, we’re excited to get our events back underway, and can’t wait to welcome visitors to enjoy their cinema experience over the coming weeks.

Millennium Point has featured in the latest video for Birmingham Women’s Hospital Charity to voice its support for the Woodlands House Appeal. The Woodland House Appeal is a £3.5million project to create a brand-new, purpose-built, bereavement centre separate from the main hospital, where families experiencing pregnancy and baby loss can spend time.

Abigail Vlahakis, Millennium Point’s Interim CEO is featured in the latest video for the appeal voicing our support and urging the community to come together in solidarity for the project. “Families day in and day out are suffering”, Abbie comments in the video, “unless somebody stands up and starts to support these charities then these families and charities will continue to suffer.”

Talking about loss
Birmingham Women’s Hospital cares for over 2,000 grieving families every year who have lost a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death. Currently, however, resources are incredibly limited, with news being delivered in cramped ‘quiet’ rooms, often on the maternity ward in a busy outpatients. The Woodland House Appeal seeks to change this by providing families with safe, secure and serene surroundings where they can take their time to overcome their losses at their own pace.

How is Millennium Point supporting?
Being a third sector organisation ourselves, we understand that collaboration and mutual support is key to achieving progress and making an impact. In addition to featuring in marketing and promotion for the appeal to raise awareness, members of our team have also taken part in several fundraising activities for the appeal. In March, our team joined members of the community to abseil down our landmark building to raise funds for the project. Our team also participated in the apprentice challenge calling businesses for donations and hosted a coffee morning on the premises both to raise funds. Millennium Point also donated festive decorations which were placed in wards at Birmingham Women’s Hospital over the festive period.

Our organisation will continue to work with the charity to support and promote the appeal and look forward to seeing the finished space and the positive impact it will have on families suffering through difficult times. Treat the family to a (safe and socially distant) screening of Dreamworks’ Trolls: World Tour (2020) in our giant screen auditorium (formerly the IMAX cinema), this summer. Trolls: World Tour follows Trolls Poppy and Branch who discover that they are but one of six different Troll tribes scattered over six different lands devoted to six different kinds of music: Funk, Country, Techno, Classical, Pop and Rock. Poppy and Branch, along with their friends, set out to visit all the other lands to unify the Trolls in harmony against Queen Barb, who’s looking to upstage them all and make Rock reign supreme.

Summer holidays are here and lockdown is easing, which means you can now treat the kids to a fun and safe day out in Birmingham.

While the pandemic is not over, attractions and venues across the country, like us, have implemented social distancing and hygiene measures to minimise risks without impacting on your fun. With that in mind, here’re 4 socially distant family days out you can now enjoy in Birmingham.

1. SOCIALLY DISTANT CINEMA SCREENING AT MILLENNIUM POINT

Due to the pandemic, Dreamworks moved the release of Trolls: World Tour from a cinema release to digital where it became a big hit for families on lockdown. Now you can treat the kids to this year’s biggest hit animated comedy brought to you, for the first time, on the giant screen by Millennium Point.

Screening on Monday 27th July in the afternoon and again in the morning on Saturday 1st August, this is a fun and affordable way to see this family favourite on the big screen in a large and spacious cinema in Birmingham city centre. Tickets cost £7.50 each and include a drink and a bag of sweets for each child.

This is a perfect choice for families looking to ease their way gently back into ‘going out’ as opposed to the hustle and bustle of major attractions.

How is it safe?
Millennium Point has worked hard to ensure you and your family feel safe and comfortable. We have limited the number of seats for each screening. Tickets are only available in bundles with allocated seating to ensure households are sitting apart from each other. Deep cleans happen between each performance; staff are fully trained and will be in PPE, sanitisation stations are in operation and the experience is cashless and contactless – with all food and drink coming pre-packaged to minimise contact.

2. NATIONAL SEA LIFE BIRMINGHAM

We’re delighted to see this family favourite underwater attraction is now back and open for business.

Featuring the UK’s only 360 ocean tunnel an abundance of sea life (obviously), this city-centre attraction has over 2,000 magical ocean creatures, including a colony of Gentoo penguins, blacktip reef sharks and a giant green sea turtle called Molokai!

Overall, this is a fun and educational experience with enough on offer to keep it fresh and appealing.

How is it safe?
Seal Life Birmingham has implemented several measures to keep your family safe. Pre-booking is now essential, some events and facilities have been altered or temporarily suspended, social distancing measures in place and hygiene measures including screens at checkouts and sanitiser.

3. CADBURY WORLD

Chocolate has certainly helped us through the pandemic, and now it’s here to help you through the summer holidays! The world-famous Brummie attraction is now back open in Bourneville.

Cadbury World has something for everyone. Discover an immersive 4D chocolate adventure, explore the science behind chocolate making and have a go at making your own; discover the origins of the cocoa bean or travel back in time to 1824 and visit J.D Cadbury’s shop on recreated Bull Street.

Similarly to our previous entry, Cadbury World offers the family fun and educational experience with a local Brummie spin. Also, chocolate in abundance.

How is it safe?
Cadbury World has implemented enhanced safety and hygiene measures to ensure minimal risk to visitors which include reduced capacity, increased cleaning, staff in PPE and limited or reworked features. Pre-booking before your trip is now essential and guests are encouraged to wear face masks.

4. BIRMINGHAM WALKING TOURS

Have fun exploring the second-city day out on one of two quirky heritage walks with a treasure hunt style. All you need to do is buy the trails in booklet or instant download format and you’re set. You’ll get everything – detailed directions, maps, clues and interesting snippets about the history of Birmingham and the people that have shaped it.

This is a fun, cheap alternative to a big-city attraction getting you and your family off the sofa and out and about in the great outdoors where you can be safe and socially distant.

Quite simply, it’s outside and down to you when and how long you do it for. This means you can easily maintain social distancing and have complete control over your safety and the safety of your family. You will have no queues or crowds and can take the trails at your own pace.

Students from Aston University’s TEDx Society have announced their first-ever virtual TEDxAston event.

What’s the event?
TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.

First announced on their website, the event will be held on 1^st August 2020 and centred around the theme of ‘Journeys’.

This virtual event will bring together a host of inspiring speakers to the virtual stage to share their own stories and how the experience of journey shapes society and the world around us. The event will also encourage attendees to reflect on their own personal journeys. Activities will include talks, performances, activities, networking opportunities and more.
Tickets are on sale now through Eventbrite. The standard ticket price is free and includes access to watch the event, followed by the “Exclusive Journey Pass” for £3.50 which offers additional benefits including Q&As, access to a networking platform and activities.

What’s TEDxAston?
TEDxAston is a series of events organised by Aston University students since 2013. Students range from freshers to PHD, volunteering their time and resource outside of their work and academic studies to design and deliver TEDxAston for the benefit of students and the local community.
The TEDxAston team of 20 students is supported by staff at Aston University and an advisory board made up of businesses including Millennium Point.

The journey of TEDxAston “Journeys’
The TEDx team have overcome several obstacles to achieve this event in-light of the Coronavirus pandemic. The team’s decision to move TEDxAston online was made in response to the uncertain situation of the pandemic.

Tristan Ripke, Student and Executive Director for TEDxAston, comments:

“The team’s decision to take the event online was a challenging one. We had to slow down at first to adjust to the new situation. However, we believe in TED’s mission of sharing ideas worth spreading and want TEDxAstonUniversity to benefit the local and regional community.”

“All the work is taking place from student bedrooms across Europe, Africa and Asia via Google Meet. It’s been a challenging adjustment for many members balancing academic and personal affairs alongside the pressures of the pandemic, which is why I’m very grateful to be working with such an amazing team.”

Why is this important?
Students at Aston University have risen to the challenge posed by COVID-19 and embraced technology to take their TEDx formula online. Not only does the organisation and “Journeys” seek to encourage education and discussion in Birmingham, but the journey the students themselves have taken demonstrates the resilience and commitment to providing opportunities for themselves and the wider community to learn and grow.

Our purpose-built event suite Connect located on Level 2, offers a versatile approach to training sessions. Connect offers four interconnected rooms, each with removable walls. Each room in Connect is equipped with ready-to-use AV including HD screens, projection facilities, high-speed wi-fi and temperature and light controls.
